Can I cancel or change an e-file request after submitting?
The options depend on whether your request is still scheduled or has started processing. Check the filing's status and E-File History before making changes.
If the request is still scheduled
A scheduled request that has not been sent can be canceled through the filing by a user with e-file permission.
- Open the filing.
- Click Cancel Request in the scheduled-status area, or Cancel Scheduled E-File in the toolbar.
- Review the confirmation and click Cancel Scheduled E-File.
- Wait for the successful-cancellation confirmation. The filing returns to an editable state.
Canceling the scheduled request does not schedule a new one. After making any changes, complete the e-file workflow again when you are ready.
If the request is submitting or submitted
The scheduled-cancellation option does not cancel requests that have already been sent. If you need help with a request that is submitting or submitted, contact support promptly with the filing name, tax year, form type, and current status. Support will review the request; contacting us does not guarantee it can be canceled.
If you need to change a submitted form
Wait for processing to finish and follow the result shown for the filing. Accepted filings may need corrections; rejected filings need the reported errors resolved and a resubmission. See How do I make corrections to my forms?
Saving edits does not change a submission already sent, and saving corrections does not e-file them. Previously committed federal and state filing choices cannot simply be changed during a correction round.
