Set up an IP allowlist for your account

An IP allowlist restricts web access to approved IP addresses or network ranges. In BoomTax, the IP Whitelist section under Account > Security controls access for your account.

Before you begin

Sign in from a network you intend to allow. If you use an office network or VPN, ask your IT team for the public IP addresses or CIDR ranges that your users will connect from. If you work through a company in BoomTax, coordinate access changes with your company owner.

Add your current IP address first. Once at least one rule is active, access is restricted to the active rules. When no rules are active, this account allowlist does not restrict access by IP.

Add your current IP address

  1. Go to Account > Security.
  2. Find the IP Whitelist section and review Your current IP.
  3. Select Add this IP. If your current IP is already covered, the page shows Already on the allowlist.

Add another address or a network range

  1. In IP Whitelist, select Add IP.
  2. Enter the approved IP address and an optional Description, then select Add IP.
  3. To add a network range instead, select Advanced: add a CIDR range. Enter the approved range and an optional description, then select Add range.

The saved rules appear in the list. The status shows that access is restricted when rules are active. Both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are supported.

Manage existing rules

  • Disable keeps a rule in the list but stops using it to allow access.
  • Enable activates a disabled rule again.
  • Delete permanently removes the rule.

Review who relies on a rule before disabling or deleting it. If other active rules remain, users connecting from an address covered only by the removed rule will lose access.

Troubleshooting

  • BoomTax says a change would lock you out: If any rules will remain active, they must still cover your current IP. Add your current IP or an approved range that includes it before making the change.
  • You see “Account access is restricted”: Your current IP does not match an active rule. Reconnect through an approved office network or VPN, or ask your account administrator to add your IP. Contact BoomTax support if you cannot regain access.
  • Your network or VPN address changes: Check the IP shown in BoomTax against the approved rules. Ask your IT team to confirm the correct public address or range.
